Dear AUSD Families,
Recent tragic events have understandably created anxiety and concern regarding overall school safety. I want to assure you that the Azusa Unified School District and the law enforcement agencies serving this community are committed to providing protection for our students, employees and school sites. We take this responsibility seriously and will use every available method and practice to protect school families.
The District is training staff in the threat assessment and response protocols found in A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate). A.L.I.C.E. training provides staff with four proactive, options-based, strategies in the event of an armed intruder on a District campus. The Department of Homeland Security as well as major law enforcement associations support these strategies. In addition, each school has a comprehensive safety plan in place. Schools are also required to complete a number of drills each year, including lockdown, earthquake and evacuation drills.
